TOEFL Hacks: Identify Your Required TOEFL Score

What Is the Required TOEFL Score?

Since many colleges and universities abroad have a cutoff TOEFL score, it is of utmost importance to identify the required TOEFL Score for the institution you are interested in going to. Most instructors in a reviewcenter for TOEFL recommend that your score should be higher than the cutoff score to secure your admission to an international university.

Although there are some schools abroad that offer alternative requirements if an aspiring student did not meet their TOEFL cutoff score, it is still important to set an ideal score while preparing for the examination. During your TOEFL review classes, make a list of the schools you’re interested in and find out their cutoff scores.

A Guide to the TOEFL Score Range

Aside from setting an ideal score, it is also important to know the range of TOEFL scores that most universities prefer for admission. The following is a complete score range of the TOEFL exam:

        ·         Less than 80: This is typically not an ideal TOEFL score. If your score is below 80, it will be harder for you to get in English language universities or graduate schools.

        ·         80–90: This TOEFL score range is moderately good. Once you get a score of 80 or higher, many universities will accept you. In this moderate score range, it is also easier to be accepted in graduate schools abroad.

        ·         91–100: TOEFL scores in this range are perfectly good. In fact, most universities, colleges and graduate schools prefer this range of TOEFL scores. If you’re lucky to get this score, you can also have a shot of getting a position as a Research Assistant (RA), Teaching Assistantship (TA) or Graduate Assistantship (GA) on your desired university.

        ·         101–110: This range of TOEFL scores is very good. If you acquire a TOEFL score on this range, you have the opportunity to be admitted to Ivy League universities such as Harvard University, Yale University, Princeton University, and others.

        ·         111–120: This is the best range of TOEFL scores. Test-takers who get a score at this range, is guaranteed to land the University of their choice.
